Previously admitted to practice in Namibia in 1993, and admitted in New South Wales and Western Australia in 2007, Ian was a partner at Fisher Quarmby & Pfeifer in Namibia from 1997 to 1999.
Previously, Ian worked as a group legal advisor and company secretary with Capricorn Investment Holdings Limited, a regional financial services group with established interests in banking, insurance, asset management, investments and micro-finance in Namibia and Botswana. On arriving in Australia, Ian worked as a legal advisor and compliance manager with BankWest and St Andrew’s Australia respectively, members of the then HBOS Australia Group of Companies.
Prior to joining Borrello Legal (now Borrello Graham Lawyers) in 2012, Ian was a senior lawyer at Hardy Bowen for 5 years practising in planning, environmental, property and administrative law areas, providing practical and proactive planning, property, land compensation, environment and general commercial advice to a broad range of clients (including property developers, town planning consultants, real estate agents and private individuals).
Ian’s experience in the planning area includes working on development and subdivision proposals, planning and environmental due diligence for property transactions, land use conflict resolution and planning and building prosecution proceedings.
Ian’s experience in the environmental area includes matters concerning clearance of native vegetation, threatened flora and fauna, project referral requirements under various local, state and commonwealth laws, noise regulations, contaminated sites and odour, waste and dust management associated with commercial, industrial and agricultural projects and extractive industries.
Ian appears regularly before the State Administrative Tribunal in relation to planning and environment related matters.
